It is possible and lots of people are doing it now including myself,
I will add more later if billy joel does not…
The start of a new week…the start of a new blog series…about…
Gaining muscle and losing fat at the SAME time!
What inspired the topic? Well, believe it or not, apart from the many “couldn’t care less about my body” folks lounging around the beach this past weekend, there were actually quite a few really good looking peeps sporting some pretty killer bods!
Lean and muscular – which I think most of my male readers would agree to be the “ideal” physique.
I mean, even if you’re female, you’re bound to want something similar – lean and “toned”, if you will.
Everybody wants a lean, sexy body they can be proud of…that’s why we do what we do.
But just how do you go about achieving THAT body?
Gain muscle first, then lose body fat? Vice versa?
OR maybe you might try to lose fat and gain muscle at the SAME time.
Unfortunately, 99% of people who try the latter option fail miserably.
Can it be done?
Yes. But ONLY with a very strategic approach.
Weight training + fat loss diet does NOT equal simultaneous fat loss and muscle gain.
Sorry, there’s a heck of a lot more to it than that.
Have you ever tried to lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously? What were your experiences?
Would you like to know how to REALLY lose fat and gain lean muscle at the same time?
At least 600 comments and I’ll be back before you know it to go over several critical components to simultaneous fat loss and lean body mass gain. And as long as the comments keep coming, I promise to give you killer content on this subject all week.
Talk to you in the comments section!

@Dan – No not really, I am not so scientific about this but your estimate is almost correct. I am not a big body building type person so I just have 2 raw eggs in breakfast. That would do wonders.
I think its possible, but like you said Joel, it is very strategic. You have to eat a lot of volume packed with quality nutrients, but low in calorie per volume. This tells your body it is getting plenty of sustenance to grow, but because it’s low calorie, there are no excess calories stored as fat. Also, pairing this diet with strategic training, aka your high intensity training which is much more effective at targeting fat and raising metabolism, you burn fat effectively but, your body is still convinced it is getting enough nutrients to build muscle. Not sure if this is totally correct but logically it makes sense. Let me know if I win a cookie. Doh, wrong prize for this forum…except for cheat days of course.
YES, I would LOVE to know!! Can’t wait to read the next post!
looking forward to see how its done as i just have to start hitting the gym so his should be the perfect start for me.
Can’t wait to hear this since i weight train and watch my diet and nothing happens
Tried & failed. A lot of effort – but it did lead me into knowing more about what’s healthy and what’s not (just from reading about things)
I’ve struggled with weight loss for many years and need to loses 20lbs. I don’t want big muscles but want to be toned and healthy and FAST before the summer!! Not much to ask!!
I’m in week 7 (of 9) of the muscle overload training workout. I’ve dropped about 10 lbs and cut up, but lost a little size as well. Limiting carbs during the week, but not on weekends as you recommended. Looking forward to your post about it.
I’m ready give me the goods!
yes. i have the last stubborn 10 # to go but can’t seem to lose it when I add weight training .
I want to know more!!! Because this is what I am doing right now!! I am on my 3rd week of the programm ‘Cheat my way thin’ and I was about to start a workout to gain some muscles!!! My 1rst goal was to have more energy to go through the day…Cheat my way thin gave me that. But what about the muscles?
I am already pretty thin. I need some muscle mass now.
Okay! Now I’ve been through heaps (if not mountains) of bodybuilding and weight loss literature. After hours of stressing my mind out, trying to make sense of it all and to separate the science from the utter BS (excuse my language), I’ve come to a conclusion which I feel is the most sensible. In order to lose fat from the body we need to place the body’s nutrition from carbs and fats at a slight deficit from what is actually the required amount of calories.
In order to add muscle, the body’s musculature needs to be placed under calculated stress, so as to cause micro-tear damage and aid the body to recover from the damage and rebuild the muscle only bigger and stronger. This process requires a decent surplus in the nutrition.
I would logically conclude that losing fat and gaining muscle at exact same instance simultaneously in Impossible. However, a cyclic process of high stress weight training and calorie surplus, followed by a period of anaerobic whole body workout with a slight calorie deficit should lead one to results that would let everyone believe that one has lost fat and gained muscle at the same time.
Would like to learn more from Joel!!!
hee you should answer the questions of your customers instead of this …that is not nice…you dont make good advertisement for your cheat my way thin, i had some people intrested but now i sent them the e-book for free :)
I was under the impression it did work simultaneously, so I guess I have much more to learn.

Hi Joel.
I think it’s a wonderful idea to share people’s experiences, setbacks, and success stories before giving us your input. We are all adults trying to work on the same page. I enjoy reading what others say about workouts and diet.thanks ,rifka
Yea I know it’s really hard to do both at the same time.
Usually ends up getting you nowhere, no muscle gain and no fat loss gain :S
