I too love Fridays and just a coincidence, tried the bacon wrapped shrimp skewers the other day, awsome! And, I do skip the tators and onion rings and to for the veggies, glad to hear I’m doing it right.
Anyone who knows me knows I love food.
Love it.
And when my cheat days roll around, I take full advantage.
So last Saturday (my cheat day) I took a trip over to one of my favorite restaurants—T.G.I. Friday’s—for a late night meal.
Wasn’t quite sure what I was in the mood for, but the ribs caught my attention at first glance.
Then I took a little closer look at the menu.
If you’ve been to Friday’s semi-recently, then you know they have a whole section of the menu dedicated to entrees smothered in the Jack Daniel’s BBQ Invitational winning BBQ sauce.
What you may not know (and I didn’t at the time either) is that the guy behind that sauce, and Jack Daniel’s invitation winner is a Body Transformation Insider member and previous client of mine – Chad Hayden.
Now, I knew Chad had really gotten into the BBQ scene over the past few years, but was pretty darn cool to see his name on the menu – and try his ribs!
The sauce was killer. If you haven’t experienced yet, I’d definitely get on over to Friday’s and grab a couple of the BBQ bacon-wrapped shrimp skewers or the Championship Sirlion – just be sure to sub out the mashed potatoes and/or onion rings for fresh veggies and you’ll be good to go (unless, of course, like me, it’s your cheat day :-)
So, have you tried the sauce? What did you think?
And let’s all give our fellow member Chad a big “congrats!”
Respond in the comments section!

P.S. In less than a week from today I’ll be rolling out some videos that show you exactly how and why I’m able to eat ribs (and anything else I want) on a regular basis and how I strategically use these foods to lose fat faster. After you get your hands on this information, you’ll never look at dieting the same again – stay tuned.

When I was a less Healthy Eater, I would crave that JD sauce, COuldn’t got to Fridays and not something with the sauce with extra on the side. Unfortuantely I have been back in a ling time and if I do I am sure I will go waaaayyyyy overboard. I love that Sauce!

As you can see by all of my grammatical errors and spelling errors, I was a litttle to excited to talk about the JD sauce!!!!
Interesting find on the menu- I thought you were going to say you found some food item that had 10,000 calories or some dangerous ingredient, though! So I’m glad it was something good instead.

Sorry Joel,
Congrats to Chad and all, but I haven’t been back to Friday’s since I saw a waiter repeatedly step out of the kitchen and pick his nose. Fortunately he wasn’t my waiter.

Thanks Joel !.. It’s been a wild ride for sure !.. I think of Traditional BBQ as one of the best comfort foods of the U.S. and a bone-fide satisfying meal as a cheat meal ! With doing BBQ competitions, it would be impossible to stick with most any other diet. Your dietary cheatibg stuff has always helped me stay on course, do the varying things in my life and not be built like the average BBQ man !.. it’s all about balance that makes a person happy, and content….
Oh, and being fiercely competitive helps too ! :)

The sauce rocks. I udnerstand, however, that there are 2 sauces. The JD sauce and the JD BBQ. I get the JD sauce, which is the original they have had at Fridays for several years. I usually get a piece of grilled chicken and one grilled shrimp kabob with sauce on the side and I dip. Steamed broccoli completes this tasty dish.

My sauce is the “Jack Championship” sauce, not to be confused with the original “Jack Daniel’s” sauce they’ve had for years.
I just completed the survey request that was attached to my receipt. I love the food, service and atmosphere at Fridays. The food is always good and the Championship sauce is outstanding!

That’s pretty cool – I love this site for the community and it’s cool to get the scoop on one of our own.
Must be cool being on thousands of menus all over the world, huh Chad? :-)

I am surprised that it was something good on the menu at TGI Friday’s..never ate in that restaurant and more than likely never will. I am not to crazy about “chain” restaurants. Kudo’s to your friend for the transformation.

How much sugar is in that sauce?
April 8, 2009
If only the sauces were healthier, we could all enjoy them more often. The sauces are great, but I’m reluctant to buy the sauce from the store. With a heavy dose of sugar (HFCS) and a substantial addition of calories (given you can’t just eat the serving size), it’s for cheat days only! Too bad there is not a low-carb version!

If I find myself losing weight faster than my desired rate (plan to loose from 7 to 8 pounds to the end of april) I’ll be definitely pounding on some ribs!

Joel,
Nice article.I am cutting off a lot of the emails I get about health and fitness. A lot of selling and leading people back and forth to each others site. But yours are not quite so blatant about it. Thanks, I like ribs also, grew up in Memphis(BBQ capital of the world)

Sad to say, the biggest component of BBQ is salt and sugar, and lots of it ! My sauce that I make for contests has natural sugars to it. No high Frutose sugar. (besides, I wouldn’t know where to buy it if i could !) So, to answer your question, yes, my sauce has a lot of sugar to it, but not as much as other sauces.
What I really like to do, on a day that’s not a cheat day, is to get some pork tenderloins from Sam’s. I trim off the fat. The tenderloin is pretty lean after that (check nutritional value, i don’t have it with me) sprinkle a bit of chili powder, some pepper, and a bit of garlic powder, all to taste. put on a medium heat grill, with chunk or two of hickory and cook it to 150. take it off the cooker, wrap in foil and sit it on the counter for 10 minutes. This may not be the best BBQ diet food, but it is as close to one as i can find.
I have to admit, I’m not as hardcore as 95% of you all on this website, but back in the day when i was, I always got creative on healthy food, so as to stomach it day in and day out. Ironically, this helped me with BBQ later on.

It’s nice to hear people talking about eating food instead of protein, carbs and fat.

Hi Joel,
Great sauce ha??? I’m living in Jordan and we don’t have T.G.I. Friday’s unfortunatly, but I’ll be in Vancouver in the end of this months, I think they have it there right?? so I’ll definetly go and try it, I love the ribbsssssss… and bacon OHHHH its rare to find bacon in Jordanian Resturant because its Muslem Country, and if you find it some where its wayyyyyyyyyyyy expensive so we don’t eat it outside…!!!
anyway thank you for the tip and I’ll be back here after I visit Fridays.. ;)
Keep the good work and thank you for this good site..
Sana’a.
