Hi, I am 39 years old single mother of 2. My son is 9 years old and my daughter is 15 months old. It is really hard for me to find time to myself when I can exercise. I have been implementing healthier eating habits but I go go go all the time. My 16 week goal is to make time to exercise and loose 20 pounds. I am only 5′ 4″ and weigh 157 pounds. Before I had my daughter I weighed 137 pounds. I would like to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and gain some muscle tone at the same time.
Thank you for all valued information you provide.

Just this morning me and my good friend Josh were discussing the different types of nutrition strategies we’ve been using along with our current goals, which got me a bit curious about what it is that YOU’RE currently doing.
Are you looking to gain muscle, lose fat, both?
What are your specific goals for the next 16 weeks? How many pounds do you want to lose (or gain) in that time?

Hi Joel,
I just posted to Dr. K’s blog.

I am 5’11” and weigh 165 lbs. My goal is to maintain current weight and physical condition while building more muscle size and greater strength. I can see four abs, but I am working to get all 6 exposed…
I want to loose 20-25lbs and tone up! The last three years I’ve packed on some pounds that I can’t seem to get/keep off – this time I will!
I will get down to single digit bodyfat (6-8%) in 16 weeks time.
I am two weeks into my Holiday survival program and already noticing great results. My goal for the next 16 weeks is to continue to make healthier food choices and do body challenging workouts to cut my body fat % and lose those extra 15 lbs.
@ Duncan McIntosh:
Stop pressing incorrectly, you need to keep your shoulders tight and your elbows in, not flaring out as people typically do.
If you want to lose the most fat presses are not your best solution, do exercises that use the bigger muscles and more of them, squats, deadlift, swings, lunges, cleans, snatchs, etc.
i want to loose 15 more pounds of fat, then I want to start gaining muscle mass. I think i want to do this as a repeating 4-5 week cycle..fat burning for 4 weeks, and then muscle building for 4 weeks.
I just want to finally lose the last 5 lbs!!!!! :-D
I want to have atleast 1-4% of Body fat in the next 16 weeks.
My goal for the next 16 weeks is to get to a shredded 4% bodyfat and then bulk up from there slowly, without gaining fat so that I can stay lean while slowly gaining size. I’m right now at 155 and 12%, so I have around 10-12 lbs. of fat to lose. Putting me at 143-145, then slowly adding mass, I aim to be between 155 and 160 by the summer while maintaining that 4% bodyfat.
I am looking to lose about 10 more lbs. I’ve lost 5 so far and hopefully am on a good path now. I need to stay motivated since winter is here and I’m not fond of running outside in cold weather! I am trying to do some circuit and/or strength training 2-3 times a wk with cardio mixed in as well. Staying motivated through Dec. and Jan. as all the foods I love will be looking delicious at all the parties!
I recently lost 25 lbs., I have 30 to go.I know that these will be much harder to lose.
I want to get my waist size down to 30″ from 37″ and my body fat down to 6% from 10% also to keep packing on muscle.
Oh forgot to say what workouts I’m doing! Right now I am training heavy to maintain my muscle mass while cutting, and also putting in 3 interval cardio sessions a week and 4-5 sessions of incline walking every week for about 30 minutes. After January 1st, I’m getting started on John Romaniello’s Body Comp Blitz program.
Hi.. I’m 22 and have hypothyroid since i was 18.. I gained weight n shot from 58 to 72 back then.. n cant get below it.. I have soft puppy fat n i’m pear shaped.. I want to tone myself as well as be able to maintain my weight at around 60 Kgs. And i want to be able to do it within 6 months..
My primary goal is to build conditioning / mobility / strength.
I am looking for workouts that will allow me to build strength with injury, so that I don’t end up missing workouts.
In addition I would like to loose 15 lbs of FAT,
I would like to lose 5-10 pounds of fat around my waist and add or maintain my current muscle mass. I had neck surgery to fix a ruptured disk that limited my right shoulder mobility and while I was re-gaining my mobility my muscles were atrophying and some still are not working properly, However I have made some real progress that I hope will continue. I also turn 50 next year and would like to avoid talking about aches and pains of growing old because I am not in shape.
My 16 week goal is to lose about 25 lbs. My overall goal is to lose 50 as well as to firm up my muscles. I am a muscular woman but I have been out of training for years so I desperately need to tone up. I purchased the 1,000 Calorie Challenge as well as the recommended Power Block adjustable dumbells and a bench. I am excited and looking forward to reclaiming my body!
@ Val:
No time to exercise? Do you have 5-10 minutes while sitting around the house? You do, everyone does, no matter how many children you have. Excuses will always be available, realizing that That is all they are is the first step. The next step is to buy a kettlebell and some quality instruction and get swinging; you can do this at home, takes 5 sq ft, 5-10 minutes and you will burn 100-200 calories in the session plus many more the 36 hours afterward.
You have little time on this planet, your excuses will mean nothing when you pass, the things you have accomplished will make you who you are, then you may rest peacefully (the bs you waste your time with will be forever forgotten because it is inherently meaningless.)
In 16 weeks I will have completed the 1000 cal challenge. I will have lost 21lbs of body fat, bringing me down to 14% from 25%. That is my biggest goal. I am also training for strength with supersets. I will double my max lift for several exercises.
Good Morning –
I used to run and lift weights until I developed arthritis of the hips.
I would like to lose at least 12 pounds over the next 12 weeks. However, as I keep telling you and your health co-horts, I am 64 with two artificial hips. I am at the leading edge of the baby boomer bulge many of whom will have artificial joints, arthritis, and other physical challenges.
I cannot run, jump, or hop as part of an exercise program because it will damage the hip joints. I cannot do certain exercises or stretches because they might dislocate the hips.
I have yet to receive a reply from you or any of your friends on this subject or see a program being produced for committed individuals with similar handicaps.
If you all are truly committed to improving the health of everyone, then include everyone – even the broke, handicapped, and old.
Hi, im 157cm tall and my weight is 57kg. i hope to lose about 30 pounds and tone up my muscles!
I am 50, 5’1″ tall, and had gotten down to my goal weight about 1 1/2 years ago.
I met a great guy earlier this year, and have since gained almost 15 lbs (yikes). My workouts suffered (because we wanted time together), and we both love to cook. The time is wonderful, and the relationship is great — now, I have drawn the line in the sand. About 6 weeks ago, I made a recommitment to myself, and I have been working out 4 times a week, and walking (outside in Ohio – brrrr) as much as I can. Weather here is a bear right now, and I HATE the treadmill. I want to pick up the walking again, hopefully the temps let up a bit…….. :)
So……… My goals are to:
1. Get back to better eating habits
(5 fruits and veggies a day, lean meats, lots of water)
2. Continue to workout 4 times a week (good workouts)
3. Reduce consumption of soda, and products with HFCS
4. Lose 10 lbs (or more), and reduce body fat
