Are YOU Living Free?

Posted by Joel Marion on July 3, 2009

As I mentioned in my email yesterday, I’m currently down in Florida doing a little business and catching up with friends for the 4th of July weekend.

And with good old “Independence Day” around the corner, I’ve been thinking a lot about one word:

Freedom.

I know, I know, you thought it was going to be “burgers”, and in all fairness, that probably comes in at a very close second.

But back to freedom.

Yes, we live in a free nation.  Yes, we can stay out to 3 o’clock in the morning on a week night if we so choose.  And yes, we can park wherever we want in South Tampa and get our car towed at said time only to pay a total of $185 (cash only) to some guy with a foot-long beard who immediately placed the money in his pocket.

Yes, in America, you can do all of these things.  Just ask my buddy Ryan Magin.

But, here’s the real question:  are YOU living free?

Seems like a dumb question if you live in the U.S. or another quote-unquote “free” country.  But here’s the truth — I see a lot of people living in captivity everyday.

Let me explain.

Freedom, as defined by Websters Dictionary, is the power to exercise choice or make decisions without constraint from an internal or external source.

And here’s where the captivity comes in.

Are you free to buy and wear the clothes you want to buy?  Or does your body limit your freedom?

Are you free to enjoy the warm summer weather?  Are you free to feel GREAT on the beach in a bathing suit?  Or are you less than totally comfortable with your shirt off or in a bikini?

And here’s another question for those who are trying to lose weight:

Are you free to eat a wide variety of foods, even your FAVORITE foods, or is your “diet” more based around restriction than anything else?

You know, when I sent my newsletter yesterday about interacting with me on Facebook, I never expected to get so many private messages from people literally all over the world who have been using Cheat Your Way Thin for the past couple months losing 15, 20, 25+ pounds.

That kind of stuff makes my day, and you know what?  These people are living FREE.

They’re not limited by restrictive diets, and most importantly, each and every week they’re breaking away from the “bondage” their bodies have placed on them for so many years.

Here’s just a short excerpt from a Facebook message I got yesterday from my new “friend” Laura (used with permission):

“Just a quick note to say THANK YOU!!!  I bought your Cheat Your Way Thin program back when it released in April and I’m still going strong…already down 4 dress sizes!…and I just bought my first ‘bikini’ in 10 years!  I absolutely love the summer time and live only 15 minutes from the beach but for so many years now I’ve barely gone because I didn’t want to be seen in a bathing suit…Thanks to you, I’m going to be spending a lot of time doing what I love this summer :-)”

That’s awesome.

Freedom to be who you are…freedom to eat what you want…freedom to do the things you love…freedom to be comfortable and confident in your own skin.

And you know what?  NO ONE can take that away from you.

If you’re ready to experience freedom like Laura and the 34 others that took the time to message me about their success on Facebook yesterday, you can grab the same program their using at the Cheat Your Way Thin site.  I’ll even hook you up with 20% off — we’ll call it the 4th of July “freedom” sale :-)

Just use this link:

==> Cheat Your Way Thin “Freedom” Sale

Have an awesome 4th!

Joel

P.S.  Oh yeah, you can actually start the program with your 4th of July BBQ if you’d like, because believe it or not, the diet begins with a Cheat Day.  Enjoy the burgers—I know I will ;-)

This is a really good question – makes a person think. For me, I don’t completely live ‘free’ in a sense because for me I find that it’s easier to keep with the few foods that I enjoy. I find with more variety, I start to overeat, so by keeping my choices somewhat limited, I can stick to a given calorie intake better.

That said though, all of the foods I do eat are ones I do enjoy, so I don’t feel restricted at all nor do I really get cravings. I think it’s when the feeling of restriction starts to set in that major problems will start happening.

I think freedom also comes from not being addicted to things. People who are addicted to drugs are not free. Even people who are addicted to caffeine are not free. The chemicals have them in bondage. I was a slave to refined sugar before I started dieting and living my life healthier. That slave-master had shortened my life and made me unhealthy. Luckily I am now living free.

I’ve always been afraid to take of my shirt when swimming, but lately I’ve developed a new outlook. If I can’t go around shirtless around other guys then that’s too bad, but what’s stopping me? I was afraid of what people thought, but now I realized if they have a problem then they can just deal with it. It’s not my problem if they don’t like what they see. If they say anything then do what I do, imagine someone fatter like a sumo wrestler, then I won’t seem so big. I don’t see what the big deal is, everyone has nipples, just some guys are bigger. so what? It’s all in the head. If you can master your thoughts and feelings like I have you’ll feel so much better. The only thing is that this can get dangerous, since it is possible for your mind to trick you and you can unknowingly be building emotions you don’t want. It may even result in you freakin out and hurting someone else or yourself. Beware if you try to master yourself. It also takes months to fully accomplish this.

Well, I got to say Thanks Joel, I been sticking to it since April. I have lost 11 lbs, it seems it is slow going, two steps forward and one step back every week. I guess I am caught up in that “hurry up, faster” culture and wish it were different. But I must say, the weeks I get the specific exercise in 3 times, I really SEE a difference. Maybe my weight isn’t dramatically different but I have actually lost 5 inches in my waist and that LOOKS dramatic! The bikini is quite a ways off yet I think. Can a 65 year old woman wear a bikini without looking too weird? We shall see…

I’m free because I’ve already made the hard choice and made the commitment to get into the best shape of my life……..or die trying. Nothing gonna stop me this time.

P.S. I’m loving the CYWT diet. Finally, a diet I can live with.

This is a great blog. I have NOT been free for so many years because of all the extra weight. But now I am working on it and know that I will succeed this time. I’m finding the CYWT program pretty livable for me so far, even though this is only my first week.

I am looking forward to the day when I can wear what I want to, and participate in any sports actvities that I choose to. Right now, I am not free enough to do that, but soon I will be!!!

Happy 4th everyone!

It took the Cheat you way Thin program to actually make me realise how much fat I have been carrying around for the last few years. I’ve lost 18lb of fat in the last 9 weeks thanks to this program. I’m sure I’ve put on a few lb of musle as well, so in truth without getting into th nitty gritty of math, I’ve probably lost more than 18lb. Once I’d done the first few weeks, I made a choice to throw out all the paperwork etc and just live from what I had learned…habit I suppose and I have never looked back.

I have bought most programs out there, but I’m not prepared to live my life without a beer or pizza, we’re only here once right :) SO this makes the best of all worlds, my abs are just beginning to show..and I ate a full Dominos pizza a few days ago…so shoot me :)

Cheers Joel, great post…keep up the good work.

Free??
First lets define freedom. For fredom to exist, the WILL of the individual must be sovereign. So let me ask you this, would you be legally allowed to take a hand full of cylocybin mushrooms, or a large bong hit, if you so desired? I’m not asking if you want to get high, or if it would be a good idea to get stoned, but if you desire to, could you do so, legally? The answer is NO. And why not? What do shrooms or weed affect?? They affect the mind and how one processes their thoughts. So when the Govt. says that you cannot do drugs the implication is that they are in control of the kind of things that can go on in your mind.

America is NOT the home of the free…

Happy independence day! Try not to get arrested

My post really had nothing to do with that type of freedom…

WHOA!!!! dude…..that really had nothing to do with joel’s post….and the way i see it…your freedom ends when it interferes with other individuals’ freedom….so when u get stoned and decide to go and drive a car for example…you are risking your life and other people’s lives in the process….dude…relax…take it easy… i really think joel’s blog makes a lot of sence…but thats just me….btw i really understand where you’re going with this…just not sure i agree with u!

Great post, Joel.

I wonder how many people on the beach today really felt comfortable with their bodies, or their lives. I wonder…would they be willing to give up the shackles of traditional dieting for the freedom to eat cheesesteaks? I submit that they would do so.

Spread the word, brother.

PS – just finished my 9th hamburger of the day. I was going to make it 12 but I called an audible at the last moment and had 3 hot dogs instead. I’m sure you’re beating me in terms of quantity, but not in quality. New York hot dogs reign supreme.

Happy 4th.

@Joel Marion

Hi Joel,

i bought your program but have not used it yet, im a PT and a little bit skeptical about eating all any junk food.

what are your thoughts on the Paleo diet and that we aren’t evolved to eat the cr*p the food industry has produced over the past 50 years? i know i get fat on carbs and get lean on paleo diet – yes its somewhat restrictive but i truly believe the scince behind it and think we are generally greedy as people.

not having any negative jibe at you, i love this blog and love contributing, i am just interested in what you think about Paleo vs CYWT for long term health

Thanks

Hey Dopehead, quit the stuip drugs and you will understand better what Freedom is! What, if anything have you contributed to this FREE Nation to at least maintain the liberties you enjoy today? – I bet nothing – lip locking a bong will never count and it’s illegal so that we don’t end up with more like you!@Matters

Very interesting question…it’s now been about 10 months since I started my “new” lifestyle – eating better and getting into the gym – overall health improvement. I’ve lost about 35 lbs., and when a friend commented on how much weight I have lost, before I could respond my wife jumped in and said “you should see him with his shirt off, he looks like Beckham from the neck down!”.

Ever since that unsolicited, gratuitous complement, I have been much more “free” about taking my shirt off, in and around the house while doing chores, at the beach, or while outside doing a workout in the sun. When talking to people, I actually notice them glancing at my mid-section!

The key here is that it is truly a lifestyle change…at 44 years old, one has to accept that if you don’t adopt some kind of “healthy” lifestyle, there’s a significantly increased risk of longer term health problems. The CYWT program is fantastic as it really lends itself to long term acceptance and a healthy lifestyle – one truly is “free” with this program.

Thanks Joel!

I precisely wanted to say thanks all over again. I do not know what I would have taken care of without the type of suggestions revealed by you directly on my problem. Previously it was a very traumatic situation for me personally, nevertheless understanding this specialized approach you managed that made me to cry over gladness. Now i am happier for this service and have high hopes you recognize what a great job you are providing training many others via a web site. Most probably you have never encountered all of us.
