Banana Maple Protein Snack Wraps (Pure Goodness)

Posted by Joel Marion on August 3, 2009

Alright, I’m addicted to these things, and I just HAVE to share the recipe with you (mostly because I want to make myself feel better about my addiction by knowing that “lots of other people are doing it”, too).

No, seriously.  Denzel Washington and Blue Magic would have been straight up OUT OF BUSINESS if these bad boys were being peddled on the streets back in the 70′s.

Enjoy!

Banana Maple Protein Snack Wraps

Ingredients:

-1 8″ 100% Whole Wheat Tortilla
-1 medium banana
-2 tablespoons of all natural peanut butter (or almond butter)
-1 tablespoon of slivered almonds
-1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
-1-2 tablespoons of sugar free maple syrup

Directions:

In a separate bowl, mash banana and protein powder together with a fork until combined.

Spread the peanut butter onto the tortilla.  Top with the banana mixture.

Sprinkle with almonds, then drizzle with maple syrup.

Roll it up, cut it in half, and become an addict like me :-)

Hey Joel,
As a mexican I do eat lots of tortillas but I haven been cutting on them since I wasn’t sure if they were that good for my nutrition. Whats your opinion on them?

Thanks in advance,
José

How could you make anything with sugar free maple syrup? If it isn’t real syrup, I won’t eat it. There is too much fake food in the world and I won’t use it because I beleive it is bad for my health – and yours too. You can lose weight without using fake food.

Hi Joel,
So…I got hungry one day and just had a wheat tortilla, banana and almond butter and thought I was heaven then! I’ll have to try your concoction now.

Feel free to substitute ‘real’ maple syrup if you like. Hope you enjoy the recipe.

Get a good high-fiber 100% whole wheat variety…they are more than fine, particularly early in the day.

Mission also has a “carb control” line, which are extremely high in fiber. They’re a great option as well.

Wow, that looks awesome. I’ve been addicted to sf maple syrup and maple extract in my oatmeal, but this may be topping the list at the moment. :)

Hi,
I usually spread some peanut butter on a toasted rye bread, slice a banana on top and sprinkle with cinnamon and maybe some honey for that sweet tooth, I love it. I am definately gona give your idea a try though, anything with peanut butter and maple syrup has to be heavenly, Thanx.

Excellent idea! Thanks! The addition of the protein powder balances everything out. I am a banana addict!

Here’s one for you….
A favorite “cheat day” meal for me is protein pancakes (oats, egg whites, cottage cheese) topped with a plain frozen banana that I put in the food processor to make like ‘ice cream’ and top it with a tablespoon of melted peanut or almond butter.

It’s not really a cheat but it certainly tastes like one!!

Real or fake, all maple syrup is sugar, though I suppose there might be an Auntie-J made of mostly saccharin–can’t imagine that’s what you’re recommending, is it?

For those who are misinformed and think maple syrup is bad:

“Maple syrup’s health benefits are the reason maple sugar trees grow stories high and live hundreds of years. Maple syrup is obviously healthy for trees, but what most people don’t know is how nutritious it is for us. It’s organic, versatile, and tastes great.

Common sweeteners like corn syrup and sucrose have had all their nutrition processed out of them, but maple syrup’s health benefits are all there.

To start with, maple syrup has the same calcium content as whole milk. But whereas whole milk has lots of fat calories, maple syrup has no fat and only two-thirds as many calories as corn syrup.

Having a little maple syrup is like taking multivitamins that actually taste good. You have niacin, biotin, folic acid, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, iron, thiamin, copper, and vitamins B2, B5 and B6. The list goes on.

The health benefits of maple syrup extend to the heart, too. Zinc and manganese are two really big reasons maple syrup is a great health food. Zinc is a well-known antioxidant, and helps prevent damage done by cholesterol. Manganese helps with antioxidation as well, but is also a needed part of enzymes that help cells reproduce energy. Maple syrup gives you 22% of this trace mineral you need to get every day.

Maple syrup is extremely unlikely to give you an allergic reaction the same way nuts and fruits may do. Of course, it doesn’t have any lactose, so anyone can eat desserts made out of maple syrup.

Philip Rozek invites you to step into the world of maple syrup at http://www.maplesugarrecipe.com/articles-on-maple-sugar-candy.html where you can learn about Maine maple syrup, grade b maple syrup, and even pick up a few pointers on making maple candy He’ll even show you five reasons to make all-natural maple sugar candy at home.”

sounds great! My organic fruit and veg delivery didn’t include bananas this week so I’ll have to wait… hopefully next week they are in the order!!! Bring it on… I love my natural crunchy peanut butter, too! Is it cheat day or not??? May be us lighter/shorter girls should have a smaller serve than 2 Tablespoons of peanut butter and 18″ tortilla???
What do you think Joel?
PS My son Tim is through his Leukaemia treatment and has been declaired to be in remission… he didn’t vomit once or miss a meal… in fact he wonders why all his school friends thought he was sick… ” I wasn’t sick… I just had leukaemia.” Praise God! … he seems to have come out fairly unscathed… amazing… was it organics? colodial minerals, antioxidants or God? we’ll never know but one thing is sure God is Sovereign and Jesus is Lord! Sorry a bit off the topic there but thought you and the CYWT readers might like to know :-)

Hi Joel, first of all thank you for your interest and for sharing your recipes. There was someone saying you shouldn’t be eating not healthy food, but I’m sure you are, it ‘s simple as seeing your picture.
I would like to give some twists to your recipe and make it up for a fancy dessert.
You need 2 more minutes and you’ll really have a great job done !!
Heat the tortilla on a pan until at low, until it is crunchy. Pour on the smash banana (I would rather use chocolate protein).
Melt (lower your microwave to 30 o 40%) 2 or 3 pieces of dark (organic) chocolate with one or two spoons of low fat milk and pour that salsa over your smash banana,
Don’t add the peanut butter, and instead add some coconut chips.
If you are having one tortilla and specially the one higher in fiber it is Ok with the CH, specially in the days that you are training.
Coconut is a great source of MCT (middle chains triglerides), a very healthy kind of fat (saturated one) that is shown to lower total cholesterol and higher the HLD (the good guy).
Try and enjoy !!

New recipes are always fun to incorporate into your diet. However, I enjoy modifying it to my health choices. Instead of wheat I enjoy millet and flax or spinach and millet. Anything gluten free. Instead of peanut butter I enjoy making my own almond or cashew butter. And I also would rather use pure ingredients like maple sryup. You just dizzle it on so you just favor it not smothering it. So its all good and a great on the go snack. Thanks

If you haven’t heard of MMS, it’s worth your time and energy. It is amazing, with over 75,000 documented treatments of over 1500 different diseases, cancers, etc. And it’s all natural an inexpensive ($20/year for the average adult).
[it treats malaria in four hours, and HIV patients lose their symptoms in one week, the virus disappears from their blood in about ten days]

or just google MMS, but Jim Humble is easily the expert with the years and thousands of clients to prove the case.

Boy, people, can’t you calculate the calories based on the amount and the nutritional value of the ingredients?
I do the same , but with the whole wheat light bread. I roll the slices of bread with the dough roller to make them flat and then put the banana mixture in between two slices, then toast it a bit turning once. Then drizzle with bit of honey. You also can use agava nectar.
